The 7th grade Girls Basketball team had two losses against Bernal and Piedmont which lead to the end of their season. Both these games were away games. The game with Bernal was on Tuesday, November 28 and the game versus Piedmont was on Tuesday, December 5, 2017.

The game with Bernal was a season game that lead to the playoffs and since the team lost to Bernal, Herman had to play against Piedmont. The Bernal game was very close with only a one point difference with a score of 33-32. Sadly the team did not do very well against Piedmont, with a score of 43-8.

“I wish I could improve some of my skills,” said star player, Lauren Hata. “I want to improve on my dribbling and my free throws.” She continued, “I have been playing for 8 years and still haven’t mastered these skills.”

The girls coach, John Marcoida, says, “We finished better than I expected.” He explained that the team has improved from what he saw in the beginning of the season. This is Marcoida’s first year being a coach and teacher at Herman, and says that this season was very informational. He mentioned that the season went by quickly and how he would love to have an extra 2 months.

The Bernal game was close the whole time except for the first quarter when the score was 14-7 Bernal, but by half time the team was only down by one. The rest of the game it was pretty much back and forth with the score. By the last quarter Herman was down by one with a few minutes left on the clock, but unfortunately couldn’t get back up.

The game against Piedmont wasn’t as interesting since they were winning by a lot the whole time. By the first quarter Piedmont was already up by 20 points. This loss sadly ended the season for the team.
