Herman AdVenture’s first canned food drive of the year was held from November 13 to December 13, 2017. All Herman and AdVenture students competed to see who gets the most canned food. The top three classes that brought the most canned food were rewarded. First place gets a pizza party, second place gets an ice cream party and third place received a popcorn party.

Many people can’t afford a lot of things during the holidays and one of those items is food. Herman AdVenture wanted to help by collecting canned food. Some of these people who don’t have food are currently going to Herman AdVenture, and we don’t want them to struggle. The top three classes that brought in the most canned food were all from AdVenture: Mrs. Hogen-Esch’s 7B class, Ms. Edwards 7A class and Ms. Garcia’s 6A class. Every class was very competitive bringing about 30 or more cans a day.

Mrs. Edwards is a teacher at AdVenture and won second place. Her class brought 484 canned goods. Mrs. Edwards said, “AdVenture is very competitive and likes to win.” Mrs. Edwards doesn’t think it’s important to win, but it is important to help other people. She said, “AdVenture teachers like to challenge each other in school competitions.”

Layla Fisher a 7th grader in AdVenture who was in the winning class said, “At first we weren’t interested in the competition. Then Mrs. Hogen-Esch encouraged us. We also really wanted a pizza party. The classes plan to win was bringing in five cans each,” said Layla Fisher.

Herman AdVenture brought in over 2,600 canned food. Some of those people we help are at our school. Students brought over 20 cans or more to help contribute to the canned food drive. Each class was very competitive in this competition to raise as many canned goods as they could.
