Everyday Herman and AdVenture’s ambitious PE teachers, Ms. Johnston, Mr. Marcoida, Ms. Mendoza, and Mr. Bamba, assign their students different types of runs, but what are the runs and why do we run them?

On Mondays and Thursdays students run a lap, which is 400 meters long (about 1312 ft.) On Tuesdays and Fridays, they run a cross country, which is 724.2 meters long (about 2376 ft.)  On Wednesdays, however, the students complete a big run; that can be a mile (1600 meters), double cross country (1448.41 meters), 1 lap 1 cross country (1124.2 meters), etc. The PE teachers don’t usually tell the students which big run they will be running on Wednesday, so it’s more of a surprise.

In Mr. Bamba’s class, it’s a bit more different. Instead, they have to run around the basketball and volleyball courts twice, which would be about 306.8 meters (about 1006.5 feet,) they have to run that every day! “I would rather be running laps with friends in other classes.” says one of Mr. Bambas students, Sasha Mclin.

Even though students may not like running that much, it’s actually really good for their health. First of all, running usually distracts you from all the stressful things going on in your life and makes you happier. That also ties in with depression, people who suffer from depression can use running as a coping skill because it gives you that natural high feeling, making your mood more positive. Second of all, running gives your brain a boost. Scientist’s has proven that when people are running they get a rush of ideas for their current project in school or work, that follows along with any other upcoming things that may be going on.

Herman and AdVenture encourages their students to do the best that they can when it comes to doing physical exercise. Simply running 2-4 miles per week can dramatically improve your fitness and mental mindset. This is why it is good for students to run daily.

That was an amazing article! I liked how you talked about all the PE teachers and all the different runs being done. I didn’t know that running helps your brain. Good Job!

I like to run around the basketball and volleyball courts twice everyday. Not in the cold weather though.

I like how you showed the variety of the different runs, because the runs are a big part of PE, and not a lot of people point that out. The article also shows the positive points of running that students may have not seen, which will motivate them to participate in PE more, and I think that’s a really strong point in your article.
